Hey Ana, you are a doll and I truly appreciate all of your hard work and your generosity. We have completed two projects and have put up pictures on facebook for the unfinished products. We also have the wood for two more projects that we are tackling soon! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We would not be able to afford any furniture without you!

I posted this on Facebook a while ago, and we are considering tackling it on our own, but are just not sure where to begin.

Even discounted from $1100 to $880 for just the coffee table, it is a LITTLe out of my price range. By little I mean like $800 out of my price range!Wink

We could pass on the notched out legs, and I think we could even figure it out if you give us an easy to understand idea of how to construct the "box" or base without a kreg jig. And maybe confirm the size of boards used. We have lots and lots of old barn boards that are pry close to 1x6s and we may just make use out of all of that but if not. Would it be 1x6 for legs and box or 1x4s and 1x4s for the top? Would we use 1x2s or on the inside to attach everything too?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Danielle, that sure is a beautiful coffee table!  If you look closely, the legs are actually not notched at all!  They are boards joined together to make it look notched.  And the legs are open, not full chunks as it might appear.  That's good news, because its way easier to get a straight straight cut than a straight notched cut.  Here's what I think:

I realized after drawing things up that you don't have a kreg jig.
There are ways around it, but the joints won't be as tight and you will
basically have to build a frame behind the legs.  Just remember that
you need to leave 3/4" on the ends of the legs that end in the 1x4s.
And also leave 1 1/2" at the top for the supports.  1x2s would work
best.  Then
you would need to build the side legs.  These are all 1x3s.  You can
build the bracing all the way to the end, but stay 1 1/2" from the top
to give room for the 2x2s at the top.

And one more diagram so you can see all the pieces.  This is going to be inexpensive to make.  Hope it works out for you, would love to see a finished photo!  Thanks for all your support.  Ana

Thank you SO MUCH! Pictures to come. Maybe we should just go ahead and get a kreg jigWink I am sure that that would break my husbands heart! Thanks again, you are too kind and I never would have guessed that it is made up of smaller pieces.
