Pet items: Raised pet feeder (bowls) and litter pan cover

A product showing up in a lot of pet catalogs is a raised feeder for cats/dogs. It looks like a table, but there are two circles cut in the top for placing in stainless steel bowls. They're usually pretty pricey ($100 or so), but seem like they could be made for a lot less.

Another item I'd love to see is a pretty wood litter pan cover for cat litter boxes, large enough to hold a standard sized covered plastic pan, with the double duty of the top being a table surface or else a bed perch for the cat. Maybe a perch for the cat is not quite as uncouth as a table. ;) The top and maybe even the front would probably have to be hinged for cleaning out.

Ihad an idea for a cat litter box furniture thing, but I don't know how to get it to work. I want it to be like an armoire or a buffet or something where there is a door that opens and you put the cat box in the bottom and the cat has to jump up on a shelf and then another shelf before they can get out. This should virtually eliminate litter tracking (maybe have to put carpet scraps on the shelves). Could even put a bowl for food and/or water so kids or dogs can't get into it. If it could be an all in one with a scratching post that would be even better :)

I would also love to make one of those table things that go over a dog crate.....

Tash, that sounds like a neat design! I was thinking something similar to eliminate litter tracking. A lot of carpet stores willingly sell their old carpet samples for $2 or so. An idea would be to have a width/depth of a cover that takes into account a standard covered litter box plus the width/depth of a carpet square so that the cat had to go in the door, walk on the carpet, then go  in the litterbox, then come out of the litterbox and walk on the carpet before coming out of the wood box. The top, I want to be inset so that a foam bed (for the cat--not me! ;)) could go across the entire top. I may design one in the future, but it just sounds like a huge and expensive project to tackle without knowing what I'm doing! ;) I've designed something bigger in the past, but it seems like I had beginner's luck and now I over-analyze everything!

In good news for anyone who wants a raised feeder, I'm working on one right now that is sized for cats and small dogs. If it works, I'll upload plans to my own site and a link here . . . I don't use Sketchup and don't have a good camera, so it wouldn't look nice enough for Ana's site! Plus the dimensions will vary depending on the fancy turned feet you find. So it's better for me to upload math formulas (ugh) than an exact graphical plan. To make it, the only real tools you need are a manual miter box/saw and jig saw.
