Wingback chair

After seeing how well the Parson Chair turned out, here's a really ambitious request . . . I would love to see a classic upholstered wingback chair. They're very pricey, but may be something a little too difficult to make at home.

I am a carpenter, and currently duplicating a wingback chair. I can tell you, it is no easy chore. Considering I cannot disassemble the one I am copying, the endeavor has lasted many hours. At last, I have a pattern, but it is way too complicated to write out which is why you never see plans out there!

Thanks, Josh! I did think maybe it would be something a bit too difficult for most of us (including me), especially with limited tools and straightforward plans. I hope your chair turned out well!

They aren't too difficult to make at home. It's just that there's a set of skills you need that is different than the set of skills needed for most projects here.

Chairs are really neat, and there's a lot of engineering that goes into making a strong, comfortable chair. There are a few good books on the subject and I'd encourage you to check some out if you want to try building your own chair. Just be warned that a wing-back chair will not be your first chair.
