So, I just built the original queen farmhouse bed, and then realized that other beds recommend using cleats and slats to prevent mold under the mattress. I have a new memory foam mattress and I live in Virginia, where it does get quite humid in the summer (though we use A/C during that time). So, my question is, should I or can I put slats running parallel to the sides of the bed across the joists? I know that is not how it is typically done, but since i have already built it with joists I would prefer not to rip it apart. Or, should I just go ahead with the plywood? I know I read about a fix for the airflow over the plywood but I can't seem to find it anymore. Thanks for any insight!

I can't speak at all to the slats/joists question, but I know I read that Ana suggested putting an area rug pad under the bed to improve air flow if there is a chance for mold...I just can't find it at the moment. I'll keep looking for the link.

Thanks Kim! I knew there was something she suggested but could not remember what. I think we'll try that and see how it goes.
