Spray Gun Technique - Good Demo Video

Notice how he keeps the spray gun the same distance from the wood all the time, has a vertical spray instead of round, sprays beyond the end of the piece before changing directions (It looks like he is stopping the sprayer for a split second at the far end of the stroke), and rocks back and forth to extend his reach instead of trying to hold the sprayer out at the end of his reach.

Having a rotating work holder helps too.

You can practice this technique with cardboard boxes. Get a bunch of plain brown ones, set them up and spray them until you can make swathes of spray the same width across the whole box, with no wetter spots at the end where you change directions and return.

I would distrust the airless sprayers for anything but paint, and I haven't had the best report from the Wagners. I've used the pro models on my house, and those are great, but ridiculously expensive for something like this.

What a great video on spray painting - its definitely more difficult to spray than you'd think. We use the full size pro sprayers and they work well, but it is a pain to clean them afterwards. I can see the benefit of the airless, but we've also had issues with the airless not being as consistent.

I have one, it works pretty good on walls and ceilings but every once in a while it just spits the paint. Mine also leaks at the nozzle.
