Cozy Corner Twin Bed Collection

About Project

The Cozy Corner Twin bed collection meets the needs of everyone who doesn't have the wall space for the corner storage twin beds.  I made these plans for the family cabin do to the lack of space there however, this plan would work great for my son's bedroom also.  I will be constructing the wide bookcase unit for my son's room soon.  I haven't received approval from my husband's grandad for the cabin beds.   Hopefully he will like them.  The following plans are for the wide bookcase, if you have the room, you can do two shelves instead of just one.  You simply need to lengthen the sides and add another shelf.

General Instructions

Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Step 1

Cozy Corner Twin Bed Collection...WIDE BOOKCASE UNIT

(You will build two of these) Attach the shelf and the 2 x 4 supports to the sides using glue and 2in. wood screws. As shown in the picture. Predrill and countersink.

Step 2

Cozy Corner Twin Bed Collection...WIDE BOOKCASE UNIT

Attach the two shelf units together using 1 1/4in. woodscrews. Predrill and countersink. I would use atleast 2 at the top, 2 above the shelf, 2 below the shelf, and 2 at the base.

Step 3

Cozy Corner Twin Bed Collection...WIDE BOOKCASE UNIT

Attach top trim 1 x 2 @ 83" using 1 1/4in finish nails and glue. At the 3 vertical trim pieces 1 x 2 @ 29 3/4" using 1 1/4in. finish nails. Attach the shelf trim and the base front trim pieces 1 x 4 @ 39 1/4" (Please that my picture shows 1 x 2 trim for the shelves but I think the 1 x 4 will cover gap between shelf and matress better)

Step 4

Shelf with backing.

Attach 12" X 83" 1/4in plywood backing to shelf unit using 1 1/4in. finish nails. Please note you could cover the whole back, however since the bottom portion is not seen I figure you could save the rest of the backing for other projects.

Step 5

Attaching the top

Attach the top to the book case unit 1 x 12 @ 83. (My picture shows 10 1/2 but that is incorrect, the top will hang over your bookcase slightly. If you don't like this measure the depth of your shelf and on a table saw cut the board to the correct width.)

Finishing Instructions

Preparation Instructions:
Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats of wood filler as needed. When wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sanded project to remove sanding residue. Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe project clean with damp cloth. It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.
Finish Used:
For the simple plan for the cabin I simply intend on using a clear coat over everything. Which I may apply prior to assembling. We will see still a work in progress.

This is my first plan, so please that into account.  :)  Contact me if you have any questions. I will be building this so hopefully I can help.

Thanks ENJOY!

Cozy Corner Bed

I was going to start building the Corner storage day beds next week for me kids. I live in an apartment and It would just fit in their room with about 10" to spare. But then I saw this and it would same me alot of space. But I can't find the bed plans. Have these been posted yet?

This is perfect!

My sons are 6 and 15 and share a room and hate it. They have bunk beds, but I think this would be a better solution for them. I would add a divider wall between them to allow for some privacy/separation, though, but that's just my modification! =) Very nice! Adding to my To-Do List! Thanks!

Just adjust the plan

By half! It's the same shelf, just half the size!

Thanks

Thanks for answering the question. I haven't looked at my particular entries in a while. But yes the small shelf is just half the big shelf basically.

bed dimensions

Do you have to get the dimensions to be just right to actually fit the corners? Or do you always leave yourself extra room?

Can you please send me the

Can you please send me the plans for the Cozy Corner Twin Beds? Love the idea for my girls room since they share a room! Thank you

sorry for the late response.

Please see my other plans under Michael Collection. You will see a twin bed. If you don't like the way the headboard and footboard are just modify it to the simpler version using a 2x6 for the footboard and head board

So sorry

Just saw all these comments. I have posted a similar bed to the above pictures in the Michael collection. You can simply modify the head board and footboard by using a 2 X6 as used for the plans. Sorry again for the delayed response.

cozy corner beds

So this is just a very fresh thought! But do you think it would be hard to modify this, plan so you have a toodler mattress on one side and a twin on the other? I know in the end 2 twins will be the best, however that is not what I own at this time? I have really sat down and played with it, just thinking, kinda wanted your feedback! Have a great day!
