About This Project

I modified the regular farmhouse bed to a daybed for my daughters bedroom. All that is left now is to fill holes, paint, distress, and glaze :) I made the height of the front and back tall enough to fit a trundle I plan on making later. It is up on blocks right now so I could see what it will look like when completed. Will post an update once it is painted and assembled.

This is beautiful!

I can't wait to see your finished product, I would love to make this for a reading bed once I actually have a house!

Plans

You should post your modifications in a Plan Post... I KNOW there would be lots of people out there interested!  Me being one!!  One daughter wants a farmhouse bed, the other a daybed but doesn't seem to like what's on here.  We talked about a  farmhouse daybed, but no plans for it.  Beautiful job, looks excellent!!

Need Need Need Your Plans...Pretty Please...

...with sugar on top!!! Would love to know what you did to modify the farmhouse plan. My five year old desperately needs a daybed with a trundle (for those sleepovers where nobody sleeps!). I'd love to do this one for her. It's absolutely perfect. You did an amazing job!

Modifications from Queen Farm House Bed to Farmhouse Daybed

I used 1x6's for the slats and 1x4's for the top and bottom. The arch is a 1x8. I used 14-1x6-slats on the back giving the length about 77 inches on the inside and 8-1x6's on the sides giving a width of about 44 inches. My boards were actually a little less than 5.5" so my measurements are a little less. This makes the bed a little bit bigger than your standard twin mattress but I wanted extra room for bedding (my daughter has to have about 5 blankets at a time) and for water botles to fit on the sides (she also has to have about five of these). I plan on using 1x2 slats on the bottom with 1/4" MDF board on top as she has a memory foam mattress and will need a solid surface. For the front piece I used leftover 1x6 pieces at 10 inches tall and 1x2's to go across the slats on the top and bottom and then covered them with a 2x4. On the inside of the back and front I put a 2x2 on the bottom for the 1x2 slats to fit on for the mattress support. Hope this helps :) If I can ever get google sketch-up figured out I will post plans on Ana's website. I followed the instructions for the Queen Farmhouse Bed.

Seriously would love to make this bed but not that smart...

I can figure out how you made the seperate pieces easy enough but not how you would attached them...is this a dumb question?  I can't tell if you drilled from behind or what.  I would hate to ruin such a beautiful bed with unsightly holes and am not an experienced wood crafter.

Ok after much searching...

I came across brackets...don't know why that didn't occur to me.  Our bed frame uses metal hooks that slide into slats in the headboard and footboard and I wasn't sure I wanted to do that or where I would even go to get it.  So, I guess this is what I will go with unless you have a better idea.  Thanks for the help.

LOVE THIS!

You did a great job!! My girls have been wanting a daybed with a trundle and this is exactly what I have been looking for. Thanks so much for the inspiration! How tall is the back and the sides? It looks like there should be plenty of room for pillows and the mattress and still have the back peeking out. I'd love to see a pic when you get it finished :)
