This was our first project and i gotta say, I love doing this! There are so many ideas on this website!
This was super easy, my husband and I had trouble with some of it because it wasnt fitting right, but we just tweaked it and it turned out perfect!
I had been looking online for an outdoor sectional for months, and the price was too high for us to spend. Our final total was only 238 dollars all together. Store (and bad quality at that) furniture would have cost us over 500. So, I am VERY pleased.
I got the cushions on craigslist. Listed at 8 dollars a cushion. They were still in the wrapping! We have one extra cushion that we plan on making an ottoman soon.
Beautiful!
That came out wonderful. I want to build this, too. Question, I have to build with bigger people in mind. Do you think the 1 x wood is strong enough or should I modify and use 2 x instead? Also, what a great deal on the cushions! I'm wondering, do the back cushions fall through that opening at all?
Thank you! I was pretty
Thank you! I was pretty impressed with ourselves! My mother in law is a pretty big lady, and we had them over for Memorial Day. She sat on it just fine. Surprisingly, the piece when its built is VERY sturdy. It didnt look like the boards would be, but trust me, they are! Just make sure you put screws in everywhere. My husband went a little crazy with the screws, but it definitely didnt hurt. The back cushions kind of fall through - we do plan to put a back piece in between at some point. So, i do recommend that while you're building it. Also, we had to make our own revisions because for some reason the measurements we got offline didnt match up when we put it together. But, it was just a few slight moves and we figured it out. Trial and error. Hope yours turns out good! :)
Cool
Good to know! We have several friends that are bigger so I might end up putting bigger legs anyway, just in case. Besides, I like a chunky leg. However, good to know the rest doesn't have to be modified. Thanx for the info and again, beautiful job! Sure hope I can get as good of a deal as you did on the cushions! :-)
One more question...
I forgot to ask, what are the dimensions of the cushions used?
We were lucky enough to find
We were lucky enough to find exactly the dimensions Ana had directed to use - 24 x 24. We literally searched EVERYWHERE to find those dimensions because we were afraid of figuring out how to adjust the dimensions of the wood to fit the cushions. We waited to buy the wood until we bought cushions. Target has awesome cushion sets that i think would fit, but a bit pricey for us for one cushion. Good luck!
Cushions
Holy moly, you weren't kidding about the price of cushions. You really were blessed to find such a good deal! I'm just sorry I didn't have the money at the time to take advantage of the Restoration Hardware special Ana had told us about when she got her blue cushions. I'm going to wait until I can get some at a reasonable price, too.
Finish?
What type of finish is on there? Stain? Looks great!
Did you use pressure treated wood?
It's just treated pine. We do
It's just treated pine. We do plan on staining it next year. I've heard to not stain the first year on treated wood. I think the coloring on the wood is a little dark because it had just rained. Haha!
