About This Project

I combined two PB styles that I liked. I wanted the wood to look rustic, so I scarred and distressed it and skipped conditioning it prior to staining. Details can be found on my blog.

Estimated Cost:
$600, including a Kreg Jig
Estimated Time Investment:
Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Required Skill Level:
Beginner
Type of Wood:
pine boards, furring strips, plywood
Finish Used:
Minwax Provincial with a dash of Golden Oak mixed in (1 coat) / Minwax water-based poly (2 coats)
clips

Edit

My price estimate is off. That includes the baskets (I needed 24 because I also built a "dresser/media stand") and some of the other "remodeling" expenses like paint for the walls.

Basket source?

Where did you find the baskets to fit the bed?

Baskets

I got them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, two bins per cubby. They make it so easy to put laundry away where it belongs!

Moveability

I love this bed and hope to convince my hubby to let me make it. The question I have is, how difficult is it to move? We will be moving every few years, and I would rather not have to take it apart each time.

Is it possible to make it in two separate pieces so moving it is easier?

moving

The headboard is actually attached to the wall with two L-braces. It's not attached to the bed. The bed is four pieces: the two sides, the footpiece, and a connecting brace in the middle. To move it will require dismantling no matter what, which is why we had new carpet put in before we installed the bed. That said, it's not that difficult--just inserting screws in holes now readied, and it's so worth it because I love this bed! I've never had bedroom furniture I liked before.

Are your measurements the same as Ana's original plans? I'm looking to combine a few different plans to come up with what my girlfriend and I need. We have limited space, and need to store four tires under the bed, year round. As such, we've ended up with space at the foot of the bed for storage (either as you've done, or as a 'cabinet'-esque, where the bottom rail would be hinged and removable.
In any case - what are your dimensions for the cubby holes?

Thanks
