In this interview, I talk about blogging as a business, and all the things I've learned about being a stay at home mom who happens to blog. Some of the things I touch on are

  • Starting a blog even when you’re not sure what one is
  • Growing it to 1 million page views per month three months later
  • Operating a world-wide business from the Alaskan Interior
  • How to become influential when no one knows you

How about more knock off

How about more knock off furniture plans and less commercial/vanity posts?

Two isn't enough????

Ana posted TWO Knock-Off Furniture plans today. Is that not enough for you?

That's what we love about Ana, wonderful free easy plans to follow PLUS learning a little about her personal side. We are very thankful so please don't hate.

Gimme-Gimme-Gimme vs. Get-It-Done-Yourself

Hmmm...

In this world, there are some people who have gumption. Those people will see a great resource and run with it, enriching their lives and the lives of others in turn.

There are also takers. It doesn't matter how many wonderful gifts are handed to them, they will not be fulfilled. They will always want more and complain when they don't get it.

Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done to improve the takers of the world until they reach down inside themselves and do some serious personal revamping.

Ana, your site is a treasure-trove of plans, inspiration and motivation! I love the addition of personal moments and progress reports on the Momplex. It's nice to 'get to know' you. And for those of us who are starting a blog, how incredibly timely and useful this interview is. THANK YOU for bringing it to our attention! You rock!

Cindy from Indiana

P.S. I also wanted to mention how gracious and classy your personal response was to Guest #1. Once again proving why you are successful. It's not just the great free plans. It's also you! Keep up the great work!

Are you going to pay?

I'm a bit biased obviously, since I was the one interviewing Ana. I find your comment somewhat rude however.

Obviously you don't know what it takes to run a site as large as this. Ana has chosen not to charge for her plans which is awfully generous. To keep the free content going for freeloaders like you (and I mean that in a nice way) Ana mentioned in the interview that she sells advertising.

If she's not growing the site through things like interviews she's not making money = no more free plans for you.

Judging by the comments, many people loved hearing Ana's voice on topics she doesn't speak on very often.

As a freeloader, you always have the opportunity to bypass whatever you don't like, or (gasp) change the channel.

Wow "Guest", how 'bout more appreciation and less attitude?

I've been loving that you've been posting more about yourself and your life lately, Ana. I used to love hearing about your trout fishing, moose in the garden beds, and how you juggled blogging, building, motherhood and everything else in your life. Then there was a period where it was just plans for a long time.

The momplex journey, and now this great interview, is such a welcome opportunity for me to view another way of life so alien from my own - and dream about other possibilities.

Thanks Ana - love it!

Hi Vanessa, thank you so

Hi Vanessa, thank you so much! I really appreciate your friendship and kindness.

When people take their time to interview me, or otherwise help get the word out, I feel the least I can do is return the favor and link over. And I sure appreciate everyone who has been gracious and understanding and supportive of this.

For those that feel that publishing two knock-off plans in one day isn't quite enough, I do apologize. This is the most I possibly can do in a day.

Thank you

Ana you are amazing.....I love your blog, you have inspired me. Helped me realize I can make stuff instead of only dream of buying it...Thank you for everything.

To ignore is best....

Ana, unfortunately you have just encountered one of the rude, crude and indifferent people that make up a portion of the general population of the world in "guest commenter #1". According to my count I came up with around 450 different FREE knock off plans in your plan catalog. I should think that should be enough plans to keep any one busy with either looking at or even making some of them. Not to mention getting off ones butt and desiging some plans of their own. You also gave enough infomation about Sketchup for any of us who frequent your site to start to make our own designs. (I know I have!) I think that one of the rights available to the owner of a blog is the right to blog about whatever YOU want to blog about. I follow a coupla of blogs on a daily basis, one of which is yours. I cannot not imagine how much work and time is involved in presenting the things that you want to present to the public on a daily basis. I probably will never do what you and other bloggers do. I admire and frequent and immensely appreciate the work you do. IMHO, You go ahead and post about whatever you want to post about, and dont worry about the occasional "wet blanket" commenter that wants to rain on your parade. Just put that comment into your mental "round file" where it belongs. I personally love reading about everything and anything you post. Keep up the great work Ana.. I love ya!!

Thanks for the link

I don't listen to talk radio very often, so it's nice to have a link so that I can hear the interview.

I love your blog and all that goes with

Ana,
I just wanted to add to what the others have said, I love your blog! I have been following with great interest the Momplex story as we plan on building our retirement home in a couple of years ( with lots of help of course). Thank you so much for the plans that you publish for free, and everything else you do.

Thanks to both Ana and Justin!

I've followed both Ana and Justin for a couple of years now so I was really excited when I read about the interview. It was really nice to hear Ana in her own (audible) words and to learn more about her.

Ana - you've given so many gifts, both as plans and kind words, that we can never repay you. Keep doing what you do!

Some People

Ana,
I've been following your blog for many, many months now and am astounded by all that you do and give of yourself and your talent - and for free no less. Many of your plans are being used in my basement creating the craft room of my dreams.

The grumbler kindly called "Guest 1" is a leech and will take whatever you give and not give thanks. Some people will grumble that anything you do is not enough, nor will it ever be enough. I'm glad you let his/her comments stay posted on your site. It shows the sheer pettiness and most likely jealousy of "Guest 1".

Continue to do all that you do Ana. Those of us who appreciate it far outnumber those who cannot appreciate anything. The universe repays in kind...

Very appreciative and Often Impressed

Ana,
Like others have said before me, I visit your site every day just see what you've dreamed up. I couldn't possibly build everything I'd like to take a crack at, but you give me something to look forward to; something to save for; something to build and be proud of -- as often as I can get to it.

You have a well-deserved following, and though I'm more of a lurker here, I felt strongly I should tell you that, beyond the supportive remarks you typically hear from frequent visitors, there's probably hundreds of followers who likewise enjoy and appreciate you efforts and generosity without taking time to write.

Thanks for inspiring me.

Thanks for inspiring me. Thanks for giving me confidence back. Thanks for giving me a sense of completion back. Thanks for giving me self-worth again. Thanks for digging me out of worthlessness and depression. Thanks for creating more than just plans....Thank YOU for giving me purpose and igniting my life again!

Unbelievable

I really cannot believe or understand the comment made by "Guest 1", that being a complete misnomer, calling him/herself a guest is so rude. When I found this website, I was inspired. My wife and I are planning to move to the states soon, and well we gotta buy a house and then do it up a bit. I have never been into DIY beyond putting up a shelf, much to my dad's chagrin, as he was a craftsman with wood, his apprenticeship was spent on the ocean going liners that were built on the Clyde. He made beautiful hand made furniture. When I found this site, and discovered the existance of the Kreg Jig, it changed my whole outlook on working with wood. I CAN make these things. Who knows, in time I may be able to cut in a straight line with a handsaw, but i am not holding my breath on that one. In the meantime, i am looking forward to making my kitchen units as described and planned by Ana.

And how did I find this site, well I was searching for some ideas on how to build a sofa, and I found Ana. Thank you Ana for doing this and sharing.

As for "Guest 1", I would ignore him/her, soundslike someone with a grudge. an idiot of the first degree.
