Standard Size Twin Bed

My husband and I are going to build one of the twin bed/storage couches using a twin mattress. The plans state state a "standard twin mattress" is used. While researching prices and sizes of twin mattresses, I noticed that the sizes do vary. I have found some that are 75.0" x 39.0" and others that are 74" X 37.5". There may even be other variations. Obviously the "depth" varies, but that is to be expected.

If it helps, we will most likely be making the Storage Daybed, http://ana-white.com/2009/12/plan-stratton-daybed-as-request-by-you.html , or a version of Hailey Storage Bed, without the headboard. What we plan to do is actually put two twin beds together in a "L" shape like a sectional. I do plan on looking at the sectionals on the web site. However, I do love what I have seen so far!

What is considered a "standard size twin mattress" for the plans used on the web site? I appreciate any help in advance! Also, if I do get a mattress that is smaller or larger, I am assuming I can just vary the pattern, especially using the Google Sketch - thanks for the link! That shouldn't be a problem! I might even try to make one out of cardboard if I have to adjust the plans just to make sure everything fits. We have access to quite a bit of cardboard that we can recycle after using it. :)
