Pin Nailer vs. Brad Nailer

Submitted by RFEndemann on Tue, 04/03/2012 - 14:52

Looking for some expert help from my co-hobbyists here.

I plan on making several projects from Ana's designs - a few tables, a media cabinet -mostly larger pieces. I am still building up my tool kit, and am wondering which would be a better buy as a first nail gun - a pin nailer, or brad nailer. What are the differences? What is a good amount to spend?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I have a couple of brad nailers and just recently purchased a pin nailer, which I love (for certain things.) You will definately use a brad nailer more, to build projects, furnature, trim, etc, especially if the brad nailer takes as long as a 2" brad nail. The pin nailers are a 23 gauge, very fine, no strength for building, but really shine for trim and tacking pieces while glue sets up. I usually put them in on an angle and they leave a very tiny hole that in most cases the paint or finish will fill. I think you will enjoy both, but in my opinion the brad nailer is the essential tool first. Hope that helps a little.
