Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!
Really, the easiest way to cut those center pieces is to just wing it :) Lay out the frame, and then lay the longest single cross piece over until centered on corners and mark. Cut ends to points as shown above with a circular saw following your marks. Then cut your two remaining cross brace pieces in the same manner.
To save money, Kristen layered drawer slides as shown above. Genius, I say! For more details and tips, you must read Kristen's blog post here.
Then attach slides to barn door and hang ... you'll probably need to do some adjusting to get things just right. Kristen gives lots of information in her post on how she hung hers (and lots more details), and I highly recommend you taking a second to read. Thank you Kristen!
These plans look fabulous, Ana, thanks for doing what I couldn't do myself!
