About Project

Author Notes:

Hi everyone!!!

I'm so excited today to share with you brand new plans!

My dear friend Ashley from Shanty2Chic is busy working on a brand new house!  And to get ready to move in, she's already started working on furniture for her new house.

First up, Ashley wanted to build a coffee table in a square shape, with giant turned legs, inspired somewhat by the lovely Pottery Barn Cortona Coffee Table.

This is what she built!

And here's the top ....

Isn't it just gorgeous?

The folks over at Osborne Wood were kind enough to make special legs (that we can all order!) for this coffee table, and I love the substantialness of them!!!

I'm so grateful to have a chance to work with Ashley and draw the plans for her (following) for this coffee table.  You'll have to check them out - and maybe build too!!!

But first, take a second to check out Ashley's building post, aren't you dying to see more photos and know what color stain that is???  I sure am!  See you over there!

Plans follow!  Enjoy!

XO Ana

General Instructions

Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!

Step 1

Start by attaching the aprons to the legs on the sides - try using a spacer block 1/2" thick to help you inset the aprons on the legs.

TIP: Drill 3/4” pocket holes facing upward in top aprons for attaching tabletop in later steps.

Step 2

Step 4

Build the tabletop seperately, using 1-1/2" pocket holes and 2-1/2" pocket hole screws. Attach the prebuilt top to the base using the 3/4" pocket holes you drilled in step 1 and 2 in the aprons with 1-1/4" pocket hole scews, centering top on base.

Finishing Instructions

Preparation Instructions:
Fill all holes with wood filler and let dry. Apply additional coats of wood filler as needed. When wood filler is completely dry, sand the project in the direction of the wood grain with 120 grit sandpaper. Vacuum sanded project to remove sanding residue. Remove all sanding residue on work surfaces as well. Wipe project clean with damp cloth. It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.

I believe she used Rustoleum's Ultimate Wood Stain in Dark Walnut.
