This is my second project attaching whitewood studs (2x2,2x4,2x6) and the coarse Kreg screws just keep spinning down in the hole and don't tighten. I've got my drill set on like an 8 for torque so they're not over tightening. What is the problem?!

I'm making 1.5" PH and 2.5"
I'm making 1.5" PH and 2.5" screws. Any longer and they'll protrude through the board. I switched to using glue on the the thread and just hand tightening them the last bit. That helped with some if them.
