West Elm Vonnegut/Kraft Bed

I love this bed, but of course would rather not pay West Elm prices.  I was trying to sketch it out by hand, and am failing miserably.  I tried to get Sketchup, and couldn't manage to rotate the one lumber piece I found, let alone start trying to cut and put things together! (For a software engineer, I'm surprisingly inept at using engineering software. :P )

Maybe someone who actually knows how to make plans would be able to sketch one up soon.  I'm trying to collect plans to build toward the end of the year and next year. :)

Thank you all!

I think I figured out why I couldn't get my sketch of a queen sized bed to look like that picture.... I think that's a picture of the full sized. Now that I have cracked that code and am not trying to replicate it exactly, maybe I'll be able to design it!

YES! I think I got a rough sketch of it. For a queen sized, 7 slats (1 1/2" wide) angled in each direction from the center, 4 slats horizontal above and below the center horizontal. A 2x10 is the bottom board I think (in my plan at least), then 2x2 sides and top, 1x2 details and center horizontal. The headboard outside dimensions are 39" x 62" (with the legs (the 2x2 sides) extending down to the full height of 56"). Then you'd just connect a simple platform frame to the headboard to make the complete bed. Obviously the detail pieces should need to be mostly 45 degree miters on either end, though I have a board sitting in the corners, so that'd need a more complicated miter combination on one end.

Once I have time to actually make a better plan, or build it and see what works, I'll post again.
