Can't get legs level! =(

Submitted by biz_kid1 on Thu, 04/28/2011 - 06:30

I want to CRY! The legs were the same length, but something is off somewhere after construction. The legs aren't level. So I remeasured, trimmed, and they still aren't level! =( I want to cry. The table is so wobbly. I know I know the logic of leveling in my head but I can't get it to "work". Any tips?

Assuming your table aprons are the same width, and your legs are the same length, your floor may not be level. An adjustable foot (or feet) is often screwed into the bottom of one leg (or more than one leg) to bring the table to level.

I used the technique shown in this video when I built a saw bench. I wouldn't have thought of it on my own, but once I saw it I was amazed at how simple it was.

The one thing I will say is that this technique won't be nearly as easy to pull off with power tools as it will be with a hand saw. Pick up a Japanese pull saw and use that. But practice with it first on some scrap, until you can cut an accurate line. And you'll wonder why you waited so long to buy one. Even my dad, who really prefers power tools, uses his Japanese saws for fine work.

I'm late to this but I leveled a wobbly nightstand by putting one of those felt feet pads on only one leg! It's perfect now :)
