Butcher Block Table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 12/19/2021 - 03:56

My own take on this build:
https://www.ana-white.com/community-projects/butcher-block-kitchen-isla…
I used a pre-made butcher block top from Home Depot. I did have to cut it down to 2ft by 3ft
Legs were premade from tablelegs.com. I wanted solid legs and didn't want the hassle of shopping fo 3 inch thick lumber.
Drawer is Tiger Maple with plywood bottom, and the rest of it is Hard Maple.

I made a high speed style build video here-

Simple White Nightstand

It is a friend's birthday on 5/6 and I noticed she didn't have a nightstand so instead of buying a present, I decided to make her a nightstand. I really liked how the person who built "Lee and Beth's Simple Nightstands" used bead-board on the sides, and I have a lot of bead-board left over from our master bathroom renovation, so I decided to use it, too, and that way I wouldn't have to buy the wood for there, because I didn't have any extra plywood to use there. I also used the bead-board on the back and as the bottom of the drawer.

It looks more modern-cottage than it does modern, like I wanted, but it still looks good.

Pictures are of what it looked like pre-sanding and wood-filling, with 1 coat of the stain on it, and then finished with white paint.

With the combination of scrap wood and new wood, I only spent $20 on new wood for the project, and $5 on the drawer pull!

For the top, instead of a 1x12 and 1x3, I used a 1x12 and and then flanked it with 2 1x2s - for a more balanced look. I also cut the 1x12 at like 19 1/2 inches instead of 18 1/2.

I originally wanted this to look just like the one that Ana has posted (minus the distressing) - in an espresso stain with the brushed nickel pull on the drawer. I forgot to add the pre-stain and put the stain right on the wood and it looked horrible. The wood did not take the stain well, nor was it even, and the wood filler was visible all over the place. I decided to paint it a flat white instead. I put on 2 coats of white primer and 3 coats of FLAT white paint. I don't really like glossy paint as I feel like it's harder to get it to cover right. I haven't done it yet, but will add a couple coats of satin polyurethane to protect it.

Ice Trough Table

Submitted by SHiggins03 on Mon, 12/27/2021 - 11:37

Wanted to try something different for my Secret Santa gift. Didn’t have the exact plans I needed so I based it off others. Built this to fit in and out of an RV entry door. It also has a drain valve underneath. This was my first without a plan project

King Size Farmhouse Bed

Submitted by jeb6294 on Tue, 01/16/2018 - 12:56

What do you do when you want to upgrade to a king size bed but cant find one you like at any store?  You build one yourself.

I actually built this before the king size plans were available by using the queen size plans and bumping up the measurements accordingly.  We both loved the farmhouse bed so we only made a couple little changes.  One obvious change is to the posts at teh footboard...i cut those to about 48" high so I would still have a place to hang my PJ's.  I also took the router to the tops of the posts to round off the edges just a bit.

It came out great and my wife and I love it.  She likes to show off pictures every chance she gets.

Estimated Cost
Probably $150 in materials. The most significant costs were the purchase of a Rigid table saw and a Kreg jig which were both invaluable and will be used on future projects.
Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
We had wanted to do a white wash but unfortunately the only 4x4's they had at the local big box were the pressure treated variety so it would work. We ended up painting it white which we ended up really liking.

I love how this bed frame turned out! Everywhere that has stain is cedar and the rest is all scrap spruce. Thanks for another great plan Ana!

Custom King Bed Frame

This was my 2nd woodworking project. My wife had been asking for a farmhouse bed for some time, so I figured I'd go for it. The end result was even better than I was hoping. It came together really well and the bed is just perfect. Thank you Ana for the plans!

I used the Ana White Queen Bed and King Bed plans as guides, as well as another blog called A Lesson Learned. I modified the dimensions to fit our specific bed, then I drew up the plans using Sketchup and got to work. All the wood is pine from Home Depot. The total project took a couple months because I could only work on it on weekends and didn't have full days to commit to it. In the end though, totally worth it and we love the bed!

Estimated Cost
~$250 (not completely sure of that as I didn't track it, but with the lumber & everything, it was probably $200-$300)
Estimated Time Investment
Week Long Project (20 Hours or More)
Finish Used

Minwax Weathered Oak Stain

Toddler Picnic Table

Submitted by lmolli84 on Mon, 08/19/2013 - 19:08

My husband and I made 2 of these for my 3 year olds "Picnic Birthday Party", and they worked out great! We will definitely be using them for a while! They took about a week off and on since I just had a little time each day to do them, but I could have gotten them done in a couple easily. Very fun, easy project! We ended up staining the bottom support pieces and painting the top pieces a light blue, I love how it turned out!

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
$50 per table
Estimated Time Investment
Day Project (6-9 Hours)
Finish Used
Stain/ Outdoor Latex Paint

I ended up cutting out the pieces, and finishing all of them with the stain/paint before we assembled the table. It worked out great! All we had to do after they were assembled is fill in the top screw holes and then paint the table top and bench seat tops.

Camp Loft Bed with Matching Doll Sized Loft Bed

Submitted by lisatw on Tue, 08/20/2013 - 17:20

We made this loft bed for my daughter's 4th birthday. I did all of the cuts, sanding, and painting on my own, and had my husband help me with the assembly of the bed. It took us 2 full days to complete this build. The sanding and painting was the most tedious part of the project. I think it cost us about $150 for all of the lumber, paint, screws, etc.

My daughter's really into playing with 18" dolls right now, so I decided to make a mini version of her loft bed for her dolls. I think it turned out really well and she absolutely loves it! The doll sized loft bed only cost about $15 to make (including wood, foam for the mattress and fabric). You can't beat that price for a wooden doll bed...and what little girl wouldn't love a matching bed for her dolls?!?!

I'm so happy with how both beds turned out!

First Project!

Submitted by meg_odom on Sun, 08/25/2013 - 16:09

My husband and I built this as our first project & are thrilled with the way it turned out! We shortened it to 44" to fit our space. It took us a few hours but we got the Kreg Jig working the first try (though on a current project it is giving us some headaches). We really enjoyed building this on a rainy Saturday and received many compliments after posting the finished project on facebook. Looking forward to our next project - thanks so much for all your tutorials Ana & other submitters!

Marshall's Dresser / Changing Table

Submitted by pondrider on Thu, 12/03/2015 - 15:43

Delivered the nursury Furniture and have a ver satisfied daughter preparing to bring our Grandchild into the world. From Ariel "My sweet baby boy has the most beautiful nursery I've ever seen! I am so thankful for my father who hand built this furniture. It is definitely made with love and it's everything I dreamed of. I'm also thankful for my husband and brother in law who set up this entire nursery for me this morning. Thank you" For this project built with a lot of love, I give a lot of credit to Ed and his very well written plans. http://www.edhart.me/2015/05/how-to-build-a-kendal-extra-wide-dresser/ I followed the plans from Ana-White with Ed's varriations almost exactly except I added Blum undermount glides. This item may 300 pounds but it is well built.  #anawhite

Blum glides and assorted hardwood drove this project cost up. However this project is better than the item that I was asked to build at a retailer with a price tag of $1,200. My cost was about $500. #anawhite

Modern Farmhouse Bed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 01/15/2023 - 13:37

My husband and I had worked on this bed together, and we are so happy with it! We went with taller side tables that we purchased, and just stained the wood instead of painting it.
