With today's project, I was really striving to create more "boy" projects.
But I failed. Miserably.

I myself couldn't stop playing with this little train set!

A few weeks back, when I built the No Cutting Required Dress Up Center on Hallmark's Home and Family , the folks there asked me to also do a "boy" project to air before Christmas. Guess what? Today's that day, and the project - a train trundle - airs today! Yep, you can watch Mark Steines and I build this train trundle live on TV! Check your local listings, it's on early in the morning but can vary depending on your station.

If there is a train set under your tree, there's a good chance that next week you'll be looking for something else to store that train set under.
Might I suggest under the bed?

I do believe even a preschooler could put the train set away with this train trundle play table. I know kids, and one thing they will readily do is stuff things under beds.
Using PureBond Maple plywood, maple 1x4s, caster wheels and boiled linseed oil, we quickly created this starter building project. So pretty! We can also feel good about using PureBond Formaldehyde Free plywood and solid maple for the wood, and finishing the project with the same finish used on food cutting boards.
I know this was a super simple project, but we loved it so much! The wood was just beautiful, and the project so durable.

This trundle train table is sized to fit this train set , but you can easily modify the dimensions for any train set. Or better yet, you can modify it to fit any of your storage needs!
TIP: For larger or trundles with heavy loads, consider adding a fifth caster wheel in the center.
PS: Wondering what happened to the train set? I know this was supposed to be a "boy" toy but the Ram insisted on carrying it home for Gracie. He packed it through airports and even got *the look* for it not quite fitting under the seat in front of him. And guess what? Grace loves the train set and plays with it constantly! Go figure!
Hope you get a chance to tune in and watch us build this train trundle live on TV ! Plans follow!
