Dining room table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 10/01/2019 - 18:32

Husband and I always wanted a 12 foot table when we moved into our new home. Together, with my father-in-law, we came up with the plan, went to a lumber yard, and put together our beautiful table for all our kiddos and extended family to eat around for years and years

Farm house bed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 10/06/2019 - 14:51

Found the plans on Ana’s website, not to hard to build and only ran about $200. Bed is made from white pine with the exception or the 4x4 post which are cedar because that’s all I could find that was untreated. I used an age excelerator instead of stain. It took me the weekend to build but I have 5 kids so there where lots of distractions. I added 5 inches to the height because my wife likes tall beds, and a 2x4 to the bottom of the headboard and footboard for added strength and I liked the way it looked. Get help moving head and foot boards around as they are heavy.

Started sanding with 60 grit and finished with 120 to make it smooth and splinter free but with a little worn look. Then used an age excelerator which makes each board a little different but mostly grey. For some reason one side board turned out purple.

Bunk Beds with Climbing Wall

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Tue, 10/08/2019 - 13:26

I built this bunkbed for my boys bedroom based on Ana's plans with a slight modification to make it more fun for them- a climbing wall on the end instead of a ladder! I followed Ana's plans which were easy and clear to understand and the result is super sturdy and strong! We had IKEA bed slats already and they fit perfectly on the cleats to hold up the mattresses. I simplified the guard rail a bit and used a dark teal paint to finish. A 10 pack of climbing wall hand holds was purchased from Amazon (link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CM4DBN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asi…)- I needed slightly longer bolts than what were provided to go through the 2x6s but found what I needed at a big box store. My boys (6 & 8) absolutely love it!

Bed frame and headboard upgrade!

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 10/03/2019 - 09:03

We decided to upgrade to a king sized bed and so my queen sized bed frame and headboard had to go. I based the whole idea off of Ana White’s modern headboard plans. Just using one sheet of plywood and some common board was super easy and made the geometric design fun and quick.

I used just satin clear poly to finish the wood but it could easily be stained. I did have to rebuild the entire project and make the gap between the mattress and the wood smaller. I changed it to a 3/4 “ gap around the entire mattress which looks good and still allows you to make the bed. I just used sanded 2x4 legs but may upgrade to hairpin when my budget allows.

Barnhouse Door Cabinet

I began woodworking over the last year, having had no real previous experience, and fell in love. I work full time as a branch manager for the local Secretary of State, and have to fit my new hobby in where I can. Although I stumbled my way through the first few projects with my husband's help, I have grown both in knowledge, and confidence with each new creation. When I first started out I was nervous using cutting tools, relying solely on his assistance and focused on the nuts and bolts portion of the plans. However, I am now able to complete even more complicated plans with no assistance at all. Ana White plans are easy to follow and always end in a beautiful piece. The cabinet that I am submitting for this contest is by far my favorite of the pieces I have made so far. I think it turned out gorgeous, and I'm very proud of the work that I was able to do.

Our first new bed

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 10/03/2019 - 05:47

My husband and I have been married for 14 years and have never had a new bed. In fact we have been sleeping on hand me downs our whole lives. I completely fell in love with this bed plan and it was in our very tight budget! We are in heaven. We now have a beautiful farmhouse bed and even a new mattress. We couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

The top was created with a combination of Varathane Kona stain, white paint and grey paint. I can't remember the stain used for the cabinet itself.

Modified 4x4 Truss Beam Table

Submitted by barnes420 on Fri, 10/04/2019 - 05:58

Build this 4x4 Truss Beam Table for my wife's Birthday. For this table however, I did change the top and used the Fancy X Farmhouse Table top shortened to 7' (84"). I also used Whitney's plans on where to put the pocket holes (link provided in 4x4 Truss Beam Table Plans).  This is my first wood project and with that first time using an Ana White plan. The plans are awesome and very easy to follow, we can not wait to build the matching benches! Biggest tip I have is do not wait to long after buying the boards to start the build, the wood sat for about 3 weeks(due to work travel) and some warped a lot.

Estimated Cost
I do not have the exact amount anymore but between $100-150

Potting Bench

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 10/06/2019 - 05:26

I built this for a dear friend’s wedding. The showed me a picture of what they wanted and I modified your plans to make it look the way they wanted. I used treated lumber so it would last on their deck. Finished with Cabot solid oil-based stain. I’m not a fan of solid stain as it was very humid and it took sooo long to dry. Also I love see the wood grain.

Fancy X Farmhouse table and bench

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 10/16/2019 - 09:09

Used the fancy X farmhouse table plan with slight modifications. I decided to use a 4X4 vs two 2X4 as the main leg for the base. I thought it would provide more strength for my final product. Did the same on the bench. Then i moved the support and brace over and added an additional one to provide extra support for the concrete top and trough i made. All in all the base and the bench came out beautiful and am so over the moon with them both! It was my first project I have done (very ambitious I know) but now I am hooked!
