Farmhouse Table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 10/04/2019 - 10:24

I built this table a few years back when I was just starting off with my woodworking hobbies. It turned out beautiful thanks to the easy-to-follow plan from Ana! This is a gorgeous, sturdy farmhouse table that can look good in any finish, and in any home!

Estimated Cost
$300
Estimated Time Investment
Day Project (6-9 Hours)
Finish Used
I used a grey stain to get the color I wanted. I then lacquered it to get a nice hard finish that will stay nice and keep from dents for many years.

Wood Sideboard

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 10/03/2019 - 12:22

My wife and I originally saw this Ana White planked sideboard and knew it was exactly what our dining room needed! We had the perfect spot for it! The plans were generally easy to follow and it was actually my first time installing drawers! It turned out amazing and we all love it! We love the added storage it provides for dishes and other kitchen accessories.

We wanted a unique distressed finish, so after sanding everything good I actually used a black spray paint on most of project (mostly cracks and edges). After the black spray pain dried I Brush painted the entire project with Behr ultra paint (sorry I cannot find the color anywhere!). After the paint dried I sanded in random places, especially the edges to let the black come through, as well as some of the bare wood. This way it had a very rustic worn look of the three different colors (red, black, raw wood).

I used the 4x4 X Base Pedestal Dining Table with Planked Wood Top plans for the base but I decided to go with a round tabletop because it fits better in our kitchen. The tabletop is 16 2x4’s attached together using pocket holes and wood glue.

Floating Shelves (over Bath)

Wife wanted some shelves to put bath bombs, candles, and her other bath luxury items on.

Built with the same mounting technique as the "DIY Floating Shelf" plans noted below, using standard 2x4s for the pocket hole mounted supports.

Additionally, I used 1 in x 6 in x 6 ft Premium Kiln-Dried Square Edge Whitewood Common Boards instead of cutting plywood down for them.

{The pocket hole mounting technique is no joke. I sat two of my kids on the upper finished shelf just to prove to my wife they would support anything she put on them.}

Built from Plan(s)
Estimated Cost
Around $10 each
Estimated Time Investment
Afternoon Project (3-6 Hours)
Finish Used
Varathane
1 qt. 'Espresso' Satin Oil-Based Interior Stain and Polyurethane

Sanded very smooth hoping to match the existing cabinets. First coat ended up raising the grain out of the wood (moisture?) and making it rougher than expected. Lightly sanded with a 400 grit paper to knock down flat again and applied second coat. Glad I did, much smoother finish and almost perfectly matches the bath cabinets.

Paneled TV Console Table

I wanted a TV console table but didn't need all the bells and whistles of cabinets and drawers. I actually couldn't quite figure out the "Rustic X" design so I decided on side panels instead. Plus, I didn't really want to see all our stuff from the side anyway.

I used 1x6s for the top, 1x12s for the middle and bottom shelf, 1x3s and 1x2s for the side panels, and 1x3s and 1x2s for the trim. I used 1/4' plywood for back support and to hide cables.

This thing is solid! I live in CA and I'm not fearful of my TV falling with "The Big One" coming.

Stackable child-sized chairs

Chairs are hard.... when you don't use plans.

I used Ana's plans for round 2 of these chairs. I actually feared for my children's safety with the first set I made using no plans at all. With plans in hand, these turned out excellent and were actually quite easy to build.

I used 1x2s for the legs, 1x3s for the side supports and for the turquoise back panel, a 1x4 for the pink back panel, and scrap MDF board for the seat base.

I regret using the MDF board, it chips easily. In hindsight, I should have used 1x3s for the seat bottom.

Variation of the farmhouse console table

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 10/17/2019 - 04:47

We needed a large surface in our office that could be used as a desk, sewing space, drawing area, and office work surface. I loved the farmhouse look. We had taken down a large cherry tree a few years ago and had it milled, and we're waiting for the perfect project for her.. We love repurposing and thought this would be he perfect project for some of the milled cherry and some of the landscaping pallets we had given to us.

We used our planer to get all of our legs and cherry slabs to the right dimensions. This saved us a ton of work. Lol. We glued and kregged all of the pieces as needed, but left the top alone. This way it is more manageable. ( The table is 100" long) . Once it was all stained, sanded, and polyurethaned ; remember to sand between coats. Then we took all of the sections into the office where we kregged the top to the legs ( no glue). We didn't glue the legs to the top, that way if it ever needed to be moved, we could do it easily.

It turned out just as I sketched it - our variation of your console table. Thanks for the inspiration Anna.
