I built a coffee table with drawers that pass through - so you can open them from both sides.  Instead of expensive drawer slides, I used metal angle.  This coffee table turned out so pretty and functional.  I'm sharing the free plans with step by step diagrams, cut list and more!

Wood Coffee Table with Pass Through Drawers

It's a great honor to get to collaborate with Sarah from The Created Home on a new reclaimed wood coffee table plan for you today!

Sarah was able to use reclaimed wood as well!

I just love how this reclaimed wood coffee table turned out!

The drawers actually pass through on the front and back, so you can access the coffee table drawer contents from both sides!

We accomplished this by using metal angle as a drawer slide.  It's easy to cut and work with, and allows the drawers to slide all the way through the coffee table.

It's also fairly inexpensive.  DIY metal angle drawer slides, we shall be seeing you again for sure!

We are excited to share the plans with you below (if this is the homepage, you'll need to click READ MORE below), but before we get to those plans, do stop over and meet Sarah, and check out lots more photos and build details here.

Instructions

Step 1

Build the tabletop.  Also drill ¾” pocket holes around all four edges about every 8” for attaching to the tabletop frame in next steps.

Step 2

Attach tabletop to frame, and also attach frame boards to each other.  When 2x2 to 2x2 joint, use 1-1/2” pocket hole setting and 2-1/2” pocket hole screws (otherwise use the ¾” setting and 1-1/4” pocket hole screws).  All edges should be flush to the top side (shown upside down in image).

Step 3

Build the leg panels, then attach to legs and top.

Step 4

Attach front supports to the fronts of the coffee table.  TIP: Cut blocks 2-3/4” and 7” in length and use as spacers when installing.

Adjust coffee table for square.  You can also add 45 degree cut supports to base to keep square if necessary.

Step 5

Step 6

Build the drawers with ¾” pocket holes and 1-1/4” pocket hole screws and glue.  Attach plywood bottom with ¾” brad nails and glue.  Make sure the drawers are square.

Step 7

Place drawers inside the coffee table, so inset ¾” on fronts.  Attach drawer faces with glue and nails, with even 1/8” gap around all sides.

TIP: Attach hardware to 1x3s before attaching to drawer face so you don’t have to buy longer hardware screws, unless included with your hardware.

IMPORTANT: The drawer face must NOT extend below the drawer, or it will catch on the metal angle drawer slide.
