Fancy Jewelry Box it came out very nice. Made with white oak.

I based this design of the simple Sofa Table by Jenna Sue. Instead of a 2x8 across the top, I opted to use 1x4s side by side. This slatted look matched some of the other items in the house and to allowed me to create two hinged sections. These sections allow for easy access to wall plugs and include small notch for the cables to come through.

I combined the full-sized Hannah canopy bed plans with the Farmhouse Storage Bed with hinged footboard by birdandsoap here: http://ana-white.com/2011/07/farmhouse-storage-bed-hinged-footboard . Decided not to taper the ends of the 2x3s. There's so much storage underneath!

Full length mirror made from a cheap $10 unframed mirror from IKEA. Trimmed out with some 1 by 3, 1 by 4 and 1 by 2. Stained black and then painted white. sanded between coats of white to show some of black through and give antique worn look.

We had a small 6’x13’ storage room that we wanted to make into a playroom for our daughter. I saw the “Playhouse Loft Bed” project here and wanted to do something similar. With limited space I had to redesign the plans to make it fit. I eliminated the side walls from the plans and made cleats on the three walls to hold everything up. This actually saved a lot of money and time. As this was simply going to be a place for my daughter and friends to play and watch movies I did not worry about the size of the mattress. I simply went and had some foam cut that I am making a cover for. We are building a ladder that will go on the left side as well doors. It is dark inside so I was able to find motion operated puck lights that stay illuminated for 45 minutes at a time. So if she forgets to turn them off then they will go off by themselves to save batteries. This was a fun project. The most time consuming part was the planning. I did everything in Sketchup. This made it simple when it came time to build. The house itself went up fast. I spent the next few days filling holes, sanding, and of course painting. None of which too a long time but I was not in any rush. I also made a Dutch Door to go along with the room.

The Custom Built-ins started out with lots of research, and like many DIY project we looked to Pinterest and Houzz for inspiration. A lot of love and time went into this project. I can't stress enough how important research is. This process is often over looked because DIYers just want to get to the building process as quickly as possible, but trust me when I say doing solid research will save you a lot of stress and time when it comes to building.

This was the first time I ever built anything - before this is hardly used a drill. It was big for a first build, and I did it entirely alone aside from a few text messages with questions. I added a couple little end tables to it for a book and a drink, and it’s now my favourite outside summer spot.

custom handcrafted amish style entry bench

This was my second project from Ana White's plans. I felt confident in my new woodworking skills once I learned how to use the kreg jig for pocket holes. The child's table and chair I made came out so good, I decided why not try a toddler bed for my 4 yr old granddaughter. She loves her new bed. And I love how easy and fun it was to make.

I only had to make minor adjustments to the size to accomodate her mattress. I brought the footboard out to the edge of the legs because I needed to add an inch to the length, but the sides are set in like the plans. I also added a couple inches to the rail height since her mattress is 6 inches deep and I wanted it to be above the mattress.

I was afraid I couldn't get the rounded headboard neat, so I used the whole 6 inch board, adding to the height of the headboard a few inches. I also added the top board on the headboard because it just made it look cleaner on top. You might not be able to tell from the photo, but I did use the beadboard - I had a scrap the perfect size.

I saw the Farmhouse night stand on this website and decided to super size it so we could have a new entry table in the house. I added 1 1/4 inch to the height and extended the table top out to 36 inches. We decided to paint it black and distress it.

Originally I wanted a cubby shelf for the empty space between the sliding door and window in our master bedroom. However, that is also where the ironing board always sat out and I got tired of looking at it. So this project evolved and I decided to add an ironing board to the top of it. I used a 41" 1x12 for the top and 2-11" scraps for the flaps on either side. I covered each piece with one layer of felt and one layer of fabric. Flaps were attached to main board with hinges. Under-mount drawer slides were used to both allow the board to shift left and right and to support the flaps in open position.

This sand box was very easy to build and it works great. The only thing I would change is cutting the "arm rests" at 7 1/2" instead of 6 1/2". I did that for the second set of arm rests (when I downloaded the plans many weeks ago the cut list was wrong). It made putting that section together a lot easier.

I easily spent more on the hinges (at $5 per hinge x 8 hinges) than I did on the wood itself.

My 1 and 1/2 year old loves playing in it and now I need to build a toy box for him to put all of his sand toys in!
