Fantastic plans - was just talking to husband about wanting a headboard and went to your blog, and there it was! Can't wait to make it - we will make it in the California King size. We have antique furniture in our bedroom and it will look beautiful with it.

My husband and I just got home from buying the wood for this project. I think we got a higher grade wood, because it ended up costing us just over $100 for the wood, nails, glue, and other little things. We are planning to get started next weekend.

I was SO happy to find your blog! I am printing the plans for the king size head board RIGHT NOW....because my husband told me too. I am also going to print the plans for the table you have...he's going to make it with two benches and two chairs (gonna have to buy those)...the table and chairs we have are 10 years old. We have 3 kids (with another due in 4 weeks!)and KNOW that it is NOT smart to buy expensive furniture because our kids have not figured out how to treat it properly...or maybe we haven't taught them well enough? Either way...I am so glad you post your plans because I LOVE them and my hubby loves to build!

Here is my tip for construction:

It needs some metal supports added on the back when you build the King Size version, otherwise the center boards flex when you lean up on it to read. I have a photo of the support in this post: http://balancingeverything.com/2010/04/20/we-made-a-headboard/

Looking forward to building this Headboard, as well as the Stratton Bed. One question...what kind of Pneumatic nailer is needed? Will a brad nailer suffice?

Hi Ana! I just finished this headboard and it is GORGEOUS!!! The plans were easy to follow and it was built, start to finish, in 2 hours. I admit that my husband measured all the boards for me because, for some reason, I seem to have a major problem getting the measurments right! He was also handy to have around when it came to moving the headboard because it is very heavy. This is the second thing I've built from your site and I'm so grateful to you for all your hard work. Thanks for everything!

So I'm starting to build the Cal King version, and I think that the shopping list might be incorrect. I think I need NINE 1 x 4s instead of five, just like you would for a standard king, especially since they're 70" and 72". Is this correct?

Just finished this!  Well actually my Dad did it but I chose to keep it as light as possible.  I might end up painting it but so far I'm loving it.  Thank you so much Ana for these wonderful plans!

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone had attempted a foot board for this Mason headboard? Or if there were any plans for such? My husband is particular to the horizontal lines as opposed to the vertical lines of the Farmhouse...he's a strange one.

I was looking over the cut list and the plans for this headboard, and I was looking for the spot in the plans where it calls for the use of the Kreg Jig. It is in the tools list, but I don't see where the actual plans call for it. Just trying to figure everything out before I actually start building. Thanks for you help.

The pictures are great but I have not been able to find any detail about how the pannel trim boards and the pannel boards are assembled. I have the tools I need but would like to know some of the assembly details before I actually begin.
