Bookshelves

We were very inspired by all the bookshelf plans that Ana has on the site, but none of them were right for the space we had in mind.   I designed and worked out a cut plan for two bookshelves, one 8'x3.5'x1' and one 8'x1.5x1'.    My husband did all the cutting and building (well, I held the wood while he nailed) and I did the painting/caulking/puttying. The big one is for the kids' books and the small one is for my books.  I still have some sanding and one coat of paint to do on the small shelf but I'm very happy with the project.

We used 1/2" and 3/4" plywood for the shelf itself and 1x MDF for the face frame.  The moulding was purchased at our local discount lumber (a place that sells overstock and seconds, not Orange or Blue) for 50 cents a foot.  That saved us quite a bit since I have expensive taste in moulding. ;)

Beautiful and inspiring!  We have a few places where we would like to have floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.  Nice work!
