Ok, So I saw this at a friends house and absolutely fell in love with it! I love books as much as I love making things. So, Ana, I know this looks easy to build, but I was worried about trying it myself without some guidance from you and the other community members about the best place to start and how to make it stable! <a
There is a version that PB used to make and CB2 makes a steel version. I want to make this for the very tiny reading corner I get in our bedroom:)

I remember seeing something similar at IKEA but I didn't find it online. Maybe it's discontinued. I don't remember the name :-(
If someone knows the name you could look for assembly instructions online. They make excellent plans! And you could take the measurements from your friends shelf.

Look at the design:
A 1x8 makes a shelf big enough to hold a standard hardback book.
Make the upper shelves for paperbacks (1x6)
If you use a screw into the wall at the top of the upright, it won't tip over.
The base is just a square of something - MDF if you are going to paint it. You might be able to get a scrap of the 1 1/2 inch MD
To add weight, make a 3-layer base. Cut the middle out of the center layer of the base sandwich and put a chunk of granite in there, or some lead or steel shot from a gun shop.

Thats what I was thinking — just wondering how to add weight to the bottom to make it stable — so now I know! thanks for the help!
So instead of cutting a hole in the middle layer, I could probably have a bottom layer and a top layer of the base and in the middle build a frame out of 1x4's and then put in some weight — like rebar rods laying on their sides, I would have to cut them of course, or a granite tile or two, I think I even have a couple of those left over from our counter tops.
Awesome! thanks for all the suggestions and help:)
