wasn't sure where to put this so here it is :)
I am wanting to participate in a fundraiser online and was thinking about building something to donate. Problem is i want it to be something easily shippable which cuts down my options. The only plan i found on here that might work is the reclaimed soda crate caddy. Any other suggestions? or info on how to ship a larger piece? Any ideas would be great! Thanks
Laura

A month late and a dollar short
Even though this fundraiser has probably passed, one thing you can do to make a thing more shippable is to build it as knock-down furniture. Knock-down furniture doesn't use permanent fasteners to attach major parts, but removable ones.
I have a desk that I build where the legs are attached by wing nuts and hanger bolts. When it's bolted together properly, it looks just like a regular desk. When the legs come off, it folds down into the back of a truck or mini-van very nicely, with lots of room to stack stuff on top (perfect for a college student's desk).
The desk itself would still be ridiculous to ship. The only affordable way was by long-haul freight carrier, and then you have to ship a bunch of them to make it affordable.
Smaller items though, like a side table, would be more affordable to ship if the legs could come off.
You might also want to look at the "I Can Do That" projects from Popular Woodworking. A lot of their projects are smaller, like the lamps for the upcoming August issue.
