I have four boys in a room, sharing one 8 foot closet. Currently, there is a wire shelving system with plastic drawers. There just isn't enough room! What could I do on a microscopic budget?
Check out my previous post here http://ana-white.com/community.....mp;ret=all (scroll all the way down for the final product). Two levels of hanging stuff with the kind of rod holders that hold a shelf but let the clothes slide past it are so practical! The Parson's shelves can be modified easily, are easy to build and are cheap! Not to mention SO much better than wire shelving! I think I made mine with taller spaces, wider and deeper and I LOVE them for my folded clothes. They are so sturdy and hold so much!
My closet is 'standard' to newer houses, about 8 feet wide and rather shallow 18 inches. I'm afraid free standing shelves would take up valuable space and what do you do with that overlap space on the sides where the closet extends for a few inches behind the wall? I removed the sliding doors to make it easier to get things in and out, but now it looks like a mess. A couple of the boys are big kids that need to be able to get their own things out and put up.
Could you fit hanging rods in the ends, the parson shelving OR the laundry dresser in the middle, and put the doors back on with the shelves on the back side?
They are sliding doors, so drawers or dressers in the middle wont open all the way. I am thinking of a cubby system with rods for shirts. Hopefully it will hold more and be more easily accessible and better organized.

Mamma_joy your project turned out wonderfully!

I was thinking of the folding doors so that this would work:

but this may be an option

but the laundry dresser may still be an option depending on how much depth you have.

You could always put a curtain up so the doors don't limit your options of a dresser or such. I hope to see pictures of what you decide!
