I am trying to follow the Sketchup directions exactly, but each time I go to make my second component, it ends up being parallel and laying against the first board, instead of at a 90 degree angle. I certainly don't want to give Ana more questions to answer, so this is a great idea and I'd love any advice from more experienced 'sketchers!' Thanks! Beth
Beth, what you could do is rotate the component, as long as you've already made it a component. Select the component with your selector tool (space bar) and then click on the rotate tool (Tools > Rotate or the Q Key) and then mouse the rotate tool over the face that you want to rotate the rectangle in. Remember that you are working in a 3D space, so pay attention to which direction you are rotating. I suggest just playing around with the rotate tool, you can always use the Undo command (CTRL Z) to go back. Then you will be able to rotate the second board.
Another thought is just to delete the second board and redraw the shelf end ON the side, exactly where the shelf would meet the side. Then pull it out.

Good luck, and I'm happy to help a good friend!

i found zooming in makes it a little easier to get the 'board' to go the direction you want
