Farmhouse bed with just the headboard for our 2 year olds bed. Used the same paint as the trim in the room so it would match.
Used finish nails to connect the 1x6 and 1x2. I don't have a finish nailer so I just use hammer and nail and finish off with a nail punch.
Used the Kreg Jig for the rest. I say that thing is a must have and go ahead and get one if you can.

Looks great! The decorative trims looks very nice and makes the headboard look very high end. As far as a finish nailer, after hand nailing with a punch, I picked up a finish nailer at Harbor Freight for ~$18 with a coupon so it was well worth it.
