I built a coffee table with drawers that pass through - so you can open them from both sides. Instead of expensive drawer slides, I used metal angle. This coffee table turned out so pretty and functional. I'm sharing the free plans with step by step diagrams, cut list and more!
Preparation
- 5 – 1x6 @ 8 feet long
- 5 – 2x2 @ 8 feet long
- 1 – metal angle 1” or larger, 8 feet long
- 4 – 1x2 @ 8 feet long
- 3 – 1x3 @ 8 feet long
- 1 – 4’x4’ sheet of ¼” plywood for drawer bottoms
- 12 knobs or handles
- 1-1/4” and 2-1/2” pocket hole screws
- 1-1/4” and ¾” brad nails
- Wood glue
- 4 – 1x6 @ 45” - top
- 4 – 2x2 @ 22” – cut to fit – side trim/frame
- 6 – 2x2 @ 48” – front trim/frame
- 4 – 2x2 @ 14-3/4” - legs
- 8 – 1x6 @ 11-1/4” – side panel
- 4 – metal angle @ 23-1/2” – drawer slides
DRAWERS – adjust to fit openings as lumber sizes may vary slightly, changing opening size
- 2 – 1x2 @ 43-1/4” – small drawer fronts
- 2 – 1x2 @ 23-1/2” – small drawer sides
- 2 – 1x6 @ 43-1/4” – large drawer fronts
- 2 – 1x6 @ 23-1/2” – large drawer sides
- 2 – ¼” plywood @ 23-1/2” x 43-1/4” – drawer bottoms
- 6 – 1x3 @ 44-3/4” – faces
- 2 – 1x2 @ 44-3/4” - faces
Instructions
Step 1
Step 2
Step 4
Step 6
Step 7
Place drawers inside the coffee table, so inset ¾” on fronts. Attach drawer faces with glue and nails, with even 1/8” gap around all sides.
TIP: Attach hardware to 1x3s before attaching to drawer face so you don’t have to buy longer hardware screws, unless included with your hardware.
IMPORTANT: The drawer face must NOT extend below the drawer, or it will catch on the metal angle drawer slide.
