This tiny house we are building - it has suprised us in so many ways. We are suprised at how not tiny it is. At how easy it is to build. At how inexpensive materials are when you are going tiny. But most of all, we are suprised at how madly in love with it we are. We are totally smitten with it.
We are putting together a video series showing all the steps, and doing our best to answer all of the questions on the videos in hopes of helping others build their own tiny homes. Because there's going to be alot of you wanting to build one. Trust me on this one.
In this week's video, we are showing you how to build a floor on a trailer for a tiny home. We go through the steps from taking a standard car hauler trailer, prep it and build and insulate a floor on top. This was an easy step, but not one you want to mess up or forget something on. Check it out -

Hi, here's a rough estimate
Hi, here's a rough estimate for you (in Alaska we are at the higher end)
Trailer -$6-9K
Framing - $2-3K
Interior Finish and Flooring $1K
Roofing $1-2K
Windows $1-2K
Appliances $5-15K (heat source, generator, solar, compost toilet, water system etc)
Siding $1-2K
Doors $500
Furnishings and Decor $1K
Labor $10K
This number of course can change depending on how much you are willing to DIY, any reclaimed materials or supplies, and how simple or complex your utility systems are.
It's certainly better than paying rent. At least with a tiny house your money is going toward something that will hold it's value.
Hope this helps out!
