This floating shelf hides a closet!  Super easy DIY tutorial by ANA-WHITE.com

This is our guest room closet -

You can't see it when you don't need it, and it takes up no more space than a narrow wall shelf.

But when you need a closet, it's right there!

Under the white floating shelf that blends in the wall is three feet of hanging closet storage - and a few hooks too!  

It's perfect for a guest room, airbnb rental, mudroom, capsule wardrobe, nursery wardrobe, laundry room or a vacation home.  Anywhere you don't permanetly store clothes, this is a simple but effective solution!

Preparation

2 - 1x4 @ 8 feet long

1 - 1x8 @ 8 feet long

30" of 1-1/4" wood closet rod dowels

Common Materials
2 inch screws
1 1/4 inch finish nails
Cut List

2 - 1x4 @ 90"

1 - 1x8 @ 96"

5 - 1-1/4" closet rod dowels @ 5-3/4" (cut to fit)

Instructions

Step 1

Attach 1x4s into a rectangle.  Use 2" screws at joints or if the ends are hidden, you can use pocket holes placed on the outside.  You can also use 1-1/4" brad nails and wood glue.

Step 2

Attach top 1x8 to the 1x4 frame.  Use 1-1/4" brad nails and glue.

Step 3

Cut dowels and place in bottom of shelf.  Attach with 2" screws or 1-1/4" brad nails and glue.

Step 4

Finish and hang to studs in walls with screws. Depending on wall thickness and construction you may need to adjust your hanging screws.  We used 3" self tapping wood screws for our stud framed walls with 1/2" drywall.
