So, I was using a #10 screw to join two 2x4s for a frame, didn't like how it was lining up. Put the drill in reverse and reversed the screw out--so I thought. Only part of the screw came out. It broke off part that is now firmly holding the 2 pieces together. Suggestions? There is no head left, only the body. Didn't know that could happen!

It's not a lost cause, but you might find that buying more 2x4s and starting again will be cheaper/easier than the solutions! Your options are:
1. Brute force - hammer the two pieces of wood apart. This will damage the wood, but you may just be able to cut the damage ends off and start again
2. Saw - use a reciprocating or jig-saw with a metal cutting blade and cut through the screw. Then just leave the leftover broken pieces of screw in the wood (filling holes as needed).
3. Drill out - use a drill bit wider than the #10 screw and drill out the screw. This will be hard (lots of metal to drill through!) and will leave a bigger hole.
4. New tool - Get a screw-extractor kit from somewhere. Orange or Blue may be of help. Otherwise, you could try here: http://www.leevalley.com/en/ha.....1306,41329
Hope that's of some use... good luck!
