boy ideas

Well, something is going on to keep me from getting these links to work.  Ugghh.  I'll try and fix it tomorrow!  They are from https://www.kaplanco.com/

These are their names: High Rise Step Up, Up and Down Steps, Step Up 2 Wash, Activity Cube/Toddler Flip Seat (cool idea!), some forts and a bridge/boat combo.

This would be a big help–our bed is high to get up and down from for our little guy! http://www.kaplanco.com/store/.....sp?CatID=1||0&PID=17646

Here's a couple more options for stepstools with handles/rails http://www.kaplanco.com/store/.....sp?CatID=1||0&PID=16596

These might work for fort building http://www.kaplanco.com/store/.....sp?CatID=1||0&PID=83858

and a cool chair for little ones http://www.kaplanco.com/store/.....sp?CatID=1||0&PID=87116

but THIS is what I loved when I was little (though I was a tom boy :) It's a bridge/boat and it looks hackable! http://www.kaplanco.com/store/.....sp?CatID=1||0&PID=96530

I'm actually building chairs like the Flip Seat right now! They have them at my sons daycare and I love them! He does, too and he's getting two for Christmas.

I made plans and everything. If you're interested I could post them when they are finished. I'm hoping for a last sunny fall weekend to get them sanded and stained.

Oh, thank you Silky!  Having your plans would be so helpful!  Now just to figure out the step stool thing!

Well, I'd love to have one of those for my kitchen but I'm afraid they might take up way to much space. If I decide to make one I let you know.

Yes, I think the learning towers are too big.  I was thinking of something a little simpler/smaller like this .  It doesn't look that hard to make--though I've not used the jigsaw before.  I think something similar could be a nice in between the stool and the learning tower.

Ok, that one should be fairly easy to build starting with the storage step stool plans.

Here is how I would do it.

  • build the step stool but make sure, that the "lids" have no sideway overhang. (I think there is some overhang in the original plans)
  • cut out your side pieces. (Using a jgsaw isn't really that difficult. Just make sure you get a decent one. Cheap jigsaws are a pain to work with when it comes to cutting straight lines.)
  • If you want to use the storage omit the "wall" behind the back. In most cases there is something behind the stool anyway. If it makes you feel safer cut a board the width of your steps and the height you want it to be. Screw it to the back of the stairs.
  • screw the side pieces to the sides.

If you know a real shop that carries those steps go there and take the dimensions.

I hope that made sense.

Silky,

Have you got the measurements for the flip seat handy?  Still thinking I could make that for Christmas/his birthday in January.  Thanks!

Well, I guess I could post some simple drawings in a day or two. Maybe not soon enough for Christmas. When is his birthday? January should be totally doable even if I post the plans over the holidays. I'm really busy with my own Christmas projects right now, sorry.

And I live in the metric part of the world. I hope that doesn't pose a problem.

Thank you.  I decided to try and put it together now with what scraps I had on hand.  We'll see if it turns out....hopefully you will be off the hook!  And his birthday is Jan. 7th so a little time but not as much as I could use!
