Does anyone know a place to get screws that will work like the Kreg jig screws, but at a cheaper price? I'm looking to get a variety of sizes, but I know they have some good qualities to them such as self-tapping and built in washers. If there is another screw out there that is cheaper and will work, I want to make sure the head of the screw isn't to big and blow out the pocket hole!
Thanks,

less expensive alternative to Kreg screws
I am sure that less expensive screws are out there, but I would wonder if that source would have reliable quality over time. It is appreciably less expensive to buy in bulk. I buy large containers of Kreg screws. There is a comprehensive screw company known as McFeeleys. It carries Kreg screws along with a gazillion other screw choices. McFeeleys is known for good quality items so if they have a less expensive pan head wood screw on offer, it may be worth trying. I would only experiment with INTERIOR grade screws. EXTERIOR grade screws must have weather resistant coatings. This is a place for corners to be cut.

Right On
I buy Kreg screws at Lowes and in their dedicated screw section they have black pocket hole screws. I have used both and they both work fine. As for blowing out the PH that is determined by how you use the drill. I drill in spurts and alternate between screws until the fit is snug and then stop. I really think you will strip the grip in the receiving board before you blow out a PH.

Thanks for your thoughts
I must admit, I've heard being complaining about the costs of the kreg screws. Once I got the kreg jig and started buying the screws they didn't seem that expensive for a self-tapping screw, which has a built in washer!

ebay maybe?
I am new to DIY with plans and everything, I've always been a guy that "McGyvering" things.... and as i am planning on getting the tools that I will be need, supplies also come right after and looking at the prices for the "original" kreg screws is getting kinda $$$, so i looked at amazon and ebay, and ebay has some non-original compatible kreg screws with or without washer for a loooooot less $...
But again... I don't have the tools yet and I haven't have any first hand experience. Maybe another reader have tried them and can give us some insight if we should consider non-original instead of kreg brand....

Amazon
Do you have a link or price quote for the cheaper ones on Amazon? I know the Kreg screws are nice because they are self-tapping with no predrilling required. They also have the built in washer for the larger sizes! I would be interested in comparing the prices!!
