Rustoleum Stain in Carrington

Submitted by kegidi on Thu, 06/19/2014 - 18:19

Hi My husband and I just finished the Taylors Coffee Table. It turned out really nice except for the stain. We used Rustoleum stain in Carrington as recommended but it does not look at all like the pictures. The table in the pictures has a hint of red and ours came out very dark brown. No red whatsoever! What did we do wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm glad that the project came out well but our apologies with why the finish didn't come out well. Carrington is a reddish brown, and we've always found it true to color. Some reasons why this may have happened is that different wood species take stain differently, wood can vary on how it accepts stains even in the same species. Also make sure that you are mixing the stain before applying because that has happened to us as well without mixing well. Because the way that stain varies depending on the board it's important to test the color on the underside of the project before staining the whole project.
Your options now can be to sand it down and restrain or trying a redder stain over the top.
Hope this helps and happy building! Thank you for using our site!
