Forgive me if this has been asked - I didn't see a forum search anywhere and I scrolled through a few pages and didn't see this answered.
I saw quite a few people who made the queen sized Farmhouse bed say they spent around $150 on wood. My husband and I went to Home Depot this weekend to price it out, and it came to a higher cost than that. Where does everyone get their wood at the cheapest price? Will a lumberyard sell to a non-contracter who isn't buying much wood?

Lumberyards are generally
Lumberyards are generally good places to go, but you can't be bashful. Ask for what you need, or tell them what you have in mind and ask for advice. I find that when I make it clear I will need assistance I generally get what I want. Otherwise I spend too much time wandering around not finding what I need.
Just like a grocery store, you may need to shop around some to get the best price.
Also, be ready to make compromises. No one sells 1x2's here (they warp easily), so I generally just change all the plans to use 1x3's because ripping them down takes too much time and patience.
Good Luck

And the nice thing about
And the nice thing about lumber yards is that you pay for what you want then pull your car around and they load it on your car. Some things are cheaper at a big box store but it is also sometime worth it to pay a little more for good customer service and talking to people who know what they are talking about.

Lumber yard
I bought wood from Lowe's for my first project, but went to our local lumber yard for the last two projects and saved a ton. Do not let them pick your boards - I let them pick my boards once and they picked every crap board they had. So use the lumber yard but pick your own boards.
