Sticker Worthy

A little over a year ago, we got this crazy idea that we would devote the next couple of years of our lives to DIY our mother's a duplex to share up here in Alaska.

So we dug a big hole in the ground and built some footers and poured concrete.

This is what the Momplex looked like in August of 2011 - just one year ago.

Just one year ago, a giant truck dropped off a house full of ARXX blocks

And we started building. And we've been building over the last year, and with the help of our family, we've gotten this far in a year

It's incredible how much you can get done, one block, one nail, one screw at a time. It's incredible how much a family can do when everyone helps out.

But we are now short a helper between 8AM and 3:15PM on weekdays.

It's been a little quiet up at the Momplex. Not as many mudpies are being made. We miss her so terribly!

But our little kindergartner is coming home with a backpack full of things she's learned each day, and it has nothing to do with concrete, screwguns or saws.

But she is learning about <i>Ws and Ls and Cs and glue and scissors</i>, and we thought we could use this knowledge up at the Momplex on the weekend.

A little bit of glue goes a long ways, Dad.

That's a W, Dad.

The W gets screwed to the corners of the Momplex.

And down they come for the L.

It's really a corner piece that snaps over the W, but she says it looks like an L.

It just snaps in place, and we rivit it on to make sure it doesn't come off. No fasteners showing!

And then it's time to get in the lift again.

They load up the top L piece.

And up they go.

Gracie loves to push the gas.

And Gracie knows all about using scissors.

Those corners really stand out beautifully and finish off the Momplex corners!

So here we are, a year later! We are so darn close to being completely done with the exterior of the Momplex!
