Base Cabinet to create a basic media center.

Collections

Have you had a second to check out Niki's Base built  from our Basic Collection ?

Beautiful, isn't it?  Niki did an amazing job on both building and finishing this base!  She is building five more.

This collection is so simple.  Today, as I will be traveling to a workshop to help others build, I'm so thankful that this door plan is so easy.  It uses the same base that Niki built and that works with the glass cabinets too.

It's just the door.  Like the Pottery Barn one, ours is a false front.

There are a number of different ways you can go about building these doors.  I like the idea of using 1/4" plywood for the backs, and then either 1/4" plywood pieces for the fronts or 1/2" thick hobby boards in 6 or 8 inch widths. We'll do the second option.

Dimensions
Dimensions are shown above.

Instructions

Step 1

Build your base

First, build your base, as instructed in this plan.

Step 2

Cut Back Plywood

Cut the back plywood as shown above. Carefully sand edges. You can apply edge banding and trim edge banding to conceal plywood edges.

Step 3

False Fronts

Glue and clamp the false fronts to the plywood. You can use 5/8″ nails to further secure the panels to the plywood (or staples from the back). Remember, the knob or handle will also secure the false fronts to the plywood.

Step 4

Hardware

Attach the knobs or pulls to the doors. Then attach the doors to the bases with hinges.

Oh My Goodness!!!! How did I miss this?! I obsessively check your blog daily, but I missed this original post. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the collection! I have been drooling over a cabinet similar to this for YEARS. I figured I wouldn't have something like it until I was an old lady (by then hopefully I could dream of affording a piece like this), but holey-moley, I can see the light! I can't wait to start this project. Right now hubby and I are trying to finish the farmhouse bed (not hard...just never any time). You are AWESOME, Ana!!

My favorite source for hardware like that is Cabinet Hardware Designs on eBay. I've ordered from them three times over the last ten years, he provides *excellent* customer service, and the quality is top notch.

And bin pulls are around $3/pop.

I love it.

Have fun!

Hi Ana,

Any chance that the rest of the buffet plans will be posted...I LOVE this buffet and would love to make it as the price tag is pretty steep!

Hi Ana,
I am new here and I looked over your Brookstone hutch. I am going to build the hole unit but I don't see the measurements for the bottom unit. I am going to turn it into a gardening tool hutch. I will be adding some things to the hutch. I was just woundering if you knew the thickness for the deck base board which is the top of the bottom unit.
Thank you for your time :-)

I would love love love to know when these plans come out for the top of this piece,  because I believe this is the piece that i have been looking for to build at our new HOmE :) OH Ana I am in trouble with your site I just want to build everything. Too bad I have a full time job and a mom too, I will carve out time for sure though to build this amazing piece. You sure do have the talent, but what is best is you know how to market it! That is my fault. I'm crafty and talented just don't have the marketing skills.
