Closet Storage Collection

Have you all seen the price tags on closet systems?  geez... talk about sticker shock!

Ana, I bet you could draw up plans that would cost the same as 1 retail drawer kit.  Mix-and-match pieces that would work for everyone.

Not to mention how beginner-friendly they would be.  ''It's going in my closet, so if this joint is slightly off, it'll be ok.''  Laugh

Why stop at your bedroom closet?  They could be used in a workshop, garage, storage shed, mudroom, laundry room, pantry...

How luxurious it would feel to have a beautiful closet to pick out all our pretties to wear every day!

Options for angled closets?  I'm trying to figure out how to make more of my closet that is deep but angled.  Right now I have a rod across the width and another behind it that isn't accessible...and don't get me started about crawling to the back under the clothes to get to my boy's 'next-size' clothes!  I'm thinking it would be more functional if I turn the rod lengthwise on one side of the door, meeting the angle, and then maybe adapting Ana's new plan for the narrow space (9") on the other side...essentially making a narrow walk-in.  But I'm open to other ideas!  I've got to get control of this closet!

By "angled" do you mean with a sloping ceiling like under a stairway or at the edge of a dormer roof?

They are hard to use effectively - how would double rods work if you had his most-worn clothing on the lower one and his less worn stuff on an upper one?

Turning the rod or rods sideways and making a shallow set of shelves on the other side of the door would give you shoe space and space for narrow bins for stuff. Have some pegs for hanging coats on that side too.

Here's one that's been opened out, but you can see how they stacked different sizes of boxes to fill the space.

If it has a slant all the way to the floor, triangular bins on wheels that you can pull out easily work.

Yes, my closet angles b/c it follows the steep roof line, but wow!  I love that picture b/c it captures the way you can take the basic box design that Anna has introduced and make something so functional and customized to your space (and it looks very similar to my closet if I change the layout to meet the angle)!  Maybe even drawers like that would work, adapted much narrower, for the other side--now you've got me thinking!  Thanks for posting the inspiration so that I have something to show my hubby what I'm picturing!

P.S.  I need to start by getting rid of clothes but having a baby doesn't really allow the "if you haven't worn it in a year get rid of it" rule!  His clothes are in boxes in my closet b/c he doesn't have a room, yet!  (We hope to add on to our house next summer!)

My closets currently have the wire closet organizers, which i hate. My 3 year old's closet is the only one that is bare bones. Maybe i will start there first. It is your typical 8' wide closet with a 2 door opening. I was thinking of doing something similar to the pic above except maybe having 2 rods on one side and only one on the other. Who knows maybe i will post pics soon. wish me luck.

I'm SO excited about the closet organization system that you put up Ana!  I was wondering if you are planning on adding to it - with shoe racks and drawers specifically...I've been researching them for so long and I would rather make them myself (they are spendy to buy!!)

WooHOO - can't wait to get started!

Any Realtors out there?  We might be able to file this under 'sweat equity'. Laugh

I'd also love to see some ideas for closet organizers that aren't too difficult to do. I've been looking at buyin 1x12x8 pine boards at about $14.50 a pop each, and using a few of those and putting in some drawers, a shoe holder, maybe a slide-out pants/blouse rack (for my wife and daughters closets). A basic closet kit is about $100 for the white laminated kits at HD or Lowes. Add a few drawers/shelves and you're looking easily over $200. Then again, they are ready to just put together and already painted (laminated?). For kids rooms I tend to think the white color may fit better, but staining the wood for our closets might be nice too.
