total newbie. I was able to put together the trydell coffee table (the version with pocket holes). I was actually impressed I managed to do it....
anyway, now that it is assembled, how do I finish it? I'd like to stain it.
Do I sand now? I did not pre-sand anything before assembling it.
if I want to distress it with a chain, no I distress it first and then sand? or sand and then distress?
when staining, do I sand in between coats?
this is the table

Finishing advice
In the last six months or so Ana, thanks to some generous support by Minwax, has added a nice section on finishing: http://ana-white.com/finishes
There's a good chance you'll find your answers there, as well as some nice ideas for finishing.
