Industrial Coffee Table Square Version
Don't want your coffee table split in half? Here's the tutorial for the square version.
Preparation
4 - 2x2 @ 8 feet long
1 - 1x12 @ 12 feet long
4 - 2x2 @ 7-1/4"
8 - 2x2 @ 17-1/4" - LEGS
4 - 2x2 @ 17"
4 - 2x2 @ 27-1/4"
2 - 2x2 @ 26-1/8" - long point to long point measurement, both ends cut at 45 degrees, ends NOT parallel
1 - 2x4 @ 17-1/4" ripped in half at 45 degree bevel, then ripped down to 1-1/2" width (see this video)
2 - 1x8 @ 28-1/4" - both ends cut parallel at 45 degrees, long point to short point measurement
2 - 1x8 @ 28-1/4" - both ends cut perpendicular at 45 degrees, long point to long point measurement
2 - 1x8 @13-3/4" - both ends cut perpendicular at 45 degrees, long point to long point measurement (will make the 1x8 smaller than 7-1/4" wide)
Build two of the 2x2 bases, indentical. Keep all the pocket holes on the tops or bottoms (will be hidden by the top or on the floor when finished). Flip one base over before placing tops on, so the two tables make the split pieces.
Instructions
Step 1
Drill 1-1/2" pocket holes on each end of the 2x2 @ 7-1/4".
Attach to two of the legs with 2-1/2" pocket hole screws and glue.
Step 2
Drill pocket holes on BOTH ends of the 2x2 @ 17".
Attach one end to the legs from step 1.
Step 3
Attach a third leg to the open ends of the 2x2 @ 17".
Step 4
Drill pocket holes on ONE end of the 2x2 @ 27-1/4".
Attach with 2-1/2" pocket holes to the leg from step 3.
Step 5
Step 6
Take a 2x4 @ 17-1/4" long and rip in the middle at a 45 degree bevel.
Then take the two pieces, and rip down to 1-1/2" wide.

Attach with 2" screws and glue.
Step 7
Attach top with 2" screws from underneath.
Make sure you attach the tops of in mirror, so the two frames make up the slit table.

The lists on this are all wrong. Do I need a 1x12 or a 1x8 and the shopping list makes no mention of 2x4s but the plans do
