A small hutch to add storage just above the headboard. Perfect for favorite books and even alarm clocks. Works with the rest of our storage bed system. Special thanks to our readers for sharing their photos.

I'm scared to mention to my husband that I'm thinking about redoing Grace's room again.

Because this bed system will fit anything and everything Grandma could possibly buy Grace, and is super easy and modular to build.  And it looks amazing too!  How about it, filled with cute storage containers like Pottery Barn Teen does here.

We've already got quite a few pieces (everything BUT the top hutch and side towers) in our Storage Bed Collection of plans, and I can't wait to add the rest.  Today's plan is for the small, middle hutch with doors.  It's super easy to build.  And because we are attaching both a back and a face frame, glue and your nailer will work fine for the construction.  But the strongest joint will be pocket hole screws, or countersunk wood screws.  I'll leave that up to you and you can ask yourself questions like "will this be climbed on?" and "is this going to college with my kids?"

Thank you all for commenting yesterday on the PDF.  I love you for supporting me, even if I do have some odd aspirations to live off the grid.  :)  I think I will try to do a few diagrams in the blog post so you can get the dimensions and a rendering, but will leave the actually plan to the PDF.  Also ended up following the advice of one of our readers and adding page numbers and plan titles to the header/footers.  Keep the advice coming, I do read your comments and it does impact my decisions.

And here is the plan!

Oh, Ana, this is AWESOME! My next project was going to be a toddler or twin Farmhouse Bed for my 2 year old daughter, but I'm thinking of the future now! Maybe I should build this one?!?! There's soooo much storage! If you keep rolling out so many awesome plans, I'm really not going to be able to decide! I love the loft bed too! Thanks for all of your hard work, Ana! I hope you know how much you are appreciated!

I'd love to see something like this for a Queen Bed. It would be so great to be able to get rid of the dressers and just use the bed for clothing and other storage.

Ana,

I need your help! My husband loves to build things, in fact I like to call him a project man, he's always got to have a project to work on, which is a blessing, but if you count the number of times we've made something than ripped it apart because it wasn't right it would make me cry. So I'm asking you for some help! It's just something simple; I need a big storage box for all our blankets to sit on the side of the couch and possibly double as a side table. But I'm not sure what the best way to go about building it is... which is why I've come to you... help? also, we have a coffee table which we've stained black. Is there a sealer or something that you recommend to help keep the finish on. Our is starting to show through the stain. yikes!

I LOVE THIS SET!!! Thank you so much. It will be a while until we get to build it, as my dd is still in a crib, but I'll be counting down every minute!

Your plan shows the doors cut from 1x12s, being 12.5" (or 17.5" for full size) wide and 11.5" tall,  but a 1x12 is only 11.25. How would I make up for the difference? Is there 1/8" gap top and bottom?

That actually depends on your boards.  1x12 boards we buy around here are 11.5" and I believe that's the same in Ana's neck of the woods, too.  So you will likely have a gap at the top and bottom if you can only get 11.25 boards...unless someone else has a genius idea that fixes that.  But I'd think it would still look just fine.  (In my opinion...for whatever it's worth!!)  :)
