Would you consider an online class? I noticed that there's not much online for absolute beginners who want to make projects like Ana's so I'm in the process of producing some videos. I'd love to help you out.
I would consider it, but probably wouldn't be wanting to pay for it. Hope that doesn't sound harsh - there are SOOOOOO many video tutorials out there that cheapskates like me can usually find something free.
That doesn't sound harsh at all - totally understandable.
If you're looking for a woodworker to teach you in person I'd recommend you put a post on Lumberjocks.com. There are lots of woodworkers in the US who use that site and one of them might willing to help.
Lisa- what part of the country are you in? There are a number of programs around the country that teach basic beginner woodworking. I might be able to refer you to one if you let me know what state/area you're in.
