DIY a wall organizer that hangs from a bar, inspired by Pottery Barn Gabrielle System
Hi DIY Friends!!!
So I wanted to add more storage and functionality to a tiny bathroom with tiled walls. But I didn't want to drill into the tiled walls, and I wanted to be able to change things up easily as our family needs change.
I've long been inspired by the Pottery Barn Gabrielle wall organizing system - it's perfect for commitment-phobes such as myself! But I wanted to give the styling a little edge ... so I went pipe shopping!
And mounted 3/4" iron pipes to the wall using floor flanges and street elbows (I also backed mine in a 1x6 board with 1 coat of Rustoleum Early American). I turned the corner to take advantage of the room layout with a T and bushing supported into the wall.
Then from the pipe, I added S hooks -
And an organizer hung off the S hooks!!!
Yup, I made that. For like 12 dollars. In like 15 minutes. Ok maybe 20.
The plans for this organizer follow! It's super simple to build!
For now, I'm just using the S hooks to hang towels off of but I'd like to maybe add a few more components too! And also design a few more components for those of you wanting to use this system in a diffrent room of your home!

Yes, I was (and still am) that dorky excited about this DIY project!!! I love it!

Preparation
1- 1x4 board, 8 feet long
1 - 48" long 3/4" x 1/8" plain steel bar
I used 1-1/4" pocket hole screws for the entire project
2 - Eye Hooks
2 - 1x4 @ 32"
3 - 1x4 @ 14-1/2"
3 - metal pieces @ 16"
Please read through the entire plan and all comments before beginning this project. It is also advisable to review the Getting Started Section. Take all necessary precautions to build safely and smartly. Work on a clean level surface, free of imperfections or debris. Always use straight boards. Check for square after each step. Always predrill holes before attaching with screws. Use glue with finish nails for a stronger hold. Wipe excess glue off bare wood for stained projects, as dried glue will not take stain. Be safe, have fun, and ask for help if you need it. Good luck!
Instructions
Step 1
Build the organizer by attaching the shelves to the sides. I used 3/4" pocket holes on the underside of the shelves, and attached with 1-1/4" pocket hole screws. You could also countersink screws from outside - I'd use 2" self tapping trim screws or similar.
Step 2
Cut the metal (check the video out, I show you how easy this is with a jigsaw) and attach with screws to the front. I use a 2x2 block to guide me when attaching (watch the video, it's all in there 
)
Then attach Eye hooks to the top - depending on your walls, you may wish to move the placement of the Eye Hooks at the top - by screwing in. Hang from your bar!
It is always recommended to apply a test coat on a hidden area or scrap piece to ensure color evenness and adhesion. Use primer or wood conditioner as needed.

Great Organizational Project!!
I love everything about this project from the industrial pipes to the "s" hooks! I think it would even look great with leather straps instead of the steel bar. Thanks for sharing!

How do you drill through the steel?
Not sure what I need to drill through the steel bars, I googled it and it seems complicated

Love it but rusted floor flanges
We loved this plan and made it for our new bathroom in our remodel. It has been up for 2 weeks, and the floor flanges are rusted allready!! It is in a room with a shower/bath and toilet. Has this happened to others? How do we prevent the rusting?
