Two-Tone X Desk with Drawer

Submitted by ethunberg on Mon, 07/20/2020 - 05:02

I'm a recent grad and made this desk during Covid-19 quarantine. Now I get to use it as my work from home desk as I enter the workforce. This was my first big project I made myself, and I had some trouble with the dimensions of the tops of the legs not matching the plans, but that could be just me. I used ball bearing slides because the drawer front was pretty heavy, but they were very difficult to install. I would recommend using the cheap slides as they give more room for error. Very happy with how it turned out! The horizontal support board between the legs makes a great footrest.

Narrow Farmhouse Table Computer Desk

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 09/21/2012 - 07:58
My husband and I made this computer table together using the plans for the Narrow Farmhouse Table. We altered the plans to shorten and narrow the table even further. We also added a secret shelf underneath to hide any unsightly wires, boxes, and plugs!

This was a very easy project and only took a few hours to build (especially with another set of hands to hold the wood), and then another day to sand, stain, and varnish.

Bay Window Standalone Desk

Submitted by jonnymac on Sat, 07/19/2014 - 16:16

This is a bay window standalone desk. The desk has an enormous top and fits snugly into the bay window. It did not have to be attached to the wall. There are four pieces in total: the top, 2 base units and a support that spaces the desks at 36" and further secures the top.

The base unites are built from the File Base Classic Wall Storage System and the top is glued up 2x12s that were planed down and straight edged.

Estimated Cost
$175.00
Estimated Time Investment
Weekend Project (10-20 Hours)
Finish Used
The bottom was painted with Chalk paint from Lowes and the top is stained with one coat of Jacobean. Both top and bottom were sealed with a Minwax Protective top coat.

This was my first desk to build and learned a great deal. Looking forward to my next project!

Ana, First time I have every attempted any kind of woodwork/building furniture other than building Ikea stuff. The plans were very easy to follow and now I want a chop saw for xmas. I roped my daughter in to help me and we completed the project in 2 days. Husband was totally blow away by our achievement. I love it and feel accomplished. Away to work on the table and further benches/seating over the next few weeks. Pauline

Hamper

My family is expanding, which means more laundry! (I am 39 weeks pregnant now) So I decided to build a big enough hamper for us (two adults, one toddler who constantly dirties his clothes). For finish, I tried to mix two stains "weathered oak" and "dark walnut" and I think it came out really nice! I must admit I love my new hamper!

I liked this design of hamper you made. After looking at your photo and doing some figuring I started working on my own yesterday. So far I like it, although I think mine maybe taller. Again I really like your idea here.

Wide Camp Dresser

This was an easy build...until I got to the drawers. This was my first time building drawers and they took FOREVER to get right. I did not account for the extra width that the paint would add, so my drawers that once fit did not after I had it painted. Ended up sanding it all down and starting over. Now I know to put the slides on, then paint around them. I added height to the are with the baskets to accommodate their size as well as clear an outlet behind the dresser. The plans do not have the top cover the back panel, so I moved it back slightly to cover the edge. This made the front look too shallow, so I added 1/2 round to the upper edge.

Twin bed frame

We used the plans to create a basic bedframe.  I have used the farmhouse bed plans before and really liked the way this frame went together.  It is cheap, easy, and nicer than a metal frame.
