We have a small homeschool room that is sorely lacking storage. I have the perfect wall for the locker unit. I think it would be great except I need a space for books. Would it be doable to turn one of the vertical spaces into a bookshelf? Would it ruin the look of it?

Why not? I think it would look great, especially if you made the middle space into a bookshelf with locker spaces on either side of it.
