We just got a Cal king mattress & plan to build a farmhouse bed (maybe w/canopy if I can talk my husband into it). We have a dresser & chest of drawers that I inherited, but I'm not crazy about the color (maple?) or hinges. Trying to decide if we should try to match the new bed to the existing dresser, strip the existing dresser & refinish it to match the new bed (never done this before), buy IKEA Hemnes dresser in black brown & try to match a bed color or build a dresser/chest of drawers, which intimidates me b/c of the drawers. I'm trying to use low/no VOC stains so I'm having to order stuff vs just going into HD which complicates matters. Thoughts?

I'd get some nice bedding for your new bed, then paint the dressers (do they make melamine paint in a low VOC?) to coordinate. No worries then with trying to match stain and no expense of buying new furniture.
