I want to attach a 2 x 4 to a brick pillar on which I plan to hang a gate. Not a big gate maybe 31 inches wide. I want to make sure the timber is very secure against the brick. Any suggestions? How about a sleeve anchor or a hammered in anchor ?

Wood to Brick/Concrete
Drill holes in the masonry, there are multiple fasteners available, ones that expand and lock in the concrete/brick and then also inserts you place in the hole which you can screw into and lock the board to the concrete/brick etc. There are even bolts that you place in and expand for heavier duty work.

Works Great
Thanks. I used the expansion bolts and they worked great. I do not think a CAT 5 hurricane will remove the posts from the bricks.

Solid
Glad to hear it. Those are a great option, I have used them for mantles above fire places, you can sit on the darn things!
